The old malt factory is a symbol of both the city’s history and it’s future. The renovation of the factory and surroundings have been done by Praksis architects and Kristine Jensens landscape architects while we have been in charge of designing the multifunctional entrance to the Rampen which is a youth center located in the ground floor of Maltfabrikken. The main task was to integrate skate functions into multi-functional patio enabling the use of space not only for skateboarding but also as an event and hang out space. The design features a set of flow obstacles that merge into the landscape design and street elements such as multifunctional platform (manual pad, curb, bank to curb) that can be also used as a stage or seating platform. The patio has been well accepted and brought more life and energy to the city’s new meeting place. Photo credit: Jens Lindhe.
